Excellent text for Massage Therapists and Schools

As a former Technical Writer and Instructional Designer and a current Massage Therapist, I find this book, Condition-Specific Massage Therapy, extremely well laid out and easy to follow. It's also packed with extremely useful info! Unlike some of the other books on massage therapy research and technique that I've seen, this book has the illustrations worthy of a Human Kinetics series book and ties solid massage research into each chapter. Condition Specific Massage Therapy makes a great reference book and teaching tool.

Ms. Bucci's book begins with an intro chapter that covers:
* Basic biomechanics
* Health history
* Common sign and symptoms
* Tissue texture issues
* ROM basics
* General massage principles and application info
* Physiological affects of different massage strokes!
* Info on hydrotherapy, mobs and postisometric relaxation
* Treatment goal planning and self care basics

The rest of the book is broken into chapters by condition:

Real "Recipes" for Real Results

This book is like a cookbook for musculoskeletal dysfunction--with real solutions. I've seen books before that I would call a "recipe" book for soft tissue conditions, but Condition-Specific Massage Therapy goes way beyond the other ones I've seen. Excellent assessment skills, case studies and step-by-step ways to get clients out of pain. Great illustrations, too. Massage instructors should adopt this book...it will help get entry-level massage students better prepared for the real world! It's also great for seasoned therapists who might need a refresher, and I would even recommend it to PTs, chiropractors and others who work with soft tissue issues.

Exactly what massage education needs to develop...Critical thinkers!

This book is an excellent learning tool for the student to the seasoned therapist.
In part I, Ms. Bucci provides "the fundamental priciples" descibing the basic tools, tissues and triggers of disorders to help you understand the importance of foundational knowledge to a successful practice.
In Part II She applies that knowledge to common specific problems describing through words, diagrams, charts and true to life pictures ways that are easy to follow, developing critical thinking skills along the way. To top it off, it's based in research!
Part III: Ms. Bucci takes you back to the larger picture of muscles, ligaments and tendons bringing us to the whole again.
I love this book for the fact that you can learn something no matter how long you have practiced. Coming back to the foundation and evaluating the mechanisms of the body in a clear and consise manner helps us all develop. I'm looking forward to using this book as part of my research development training.

There had also been some proponents of women's superiority (in comparison with men) prior to the early modern period. In contrast with both of these claims, the seventeenth century witnessed the first publications that argued for the equality of men and women. Among the most articulate and original defenders of that view were Marie le Jars de Gournay, Anna Maria van Schurman, and Francois Poulain de la Barre. Gournay published The Equality of Men and Women in Paris in 1622, while one of her Dutch correspondents, Van Schurman, published in Latin her Dissertation in support of women's education in 1641. Poulain wrote a radical Physical and Moral Discourse concerning the Equality of Both Sexes in 1673, which he also published in Paris. These three feminist tracts transformed the language and conceptual framework in which questions about women's equality or otherwise were subsequently discussed. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, anonymous plagiarized editions and pirated translations of Poulain's work appeared in English, as 'vindications' of the rights of women. This edition includes new translations, from French and Latin, of these three key texts, and excerpts from the authors' related writings, together with an extensive introduction to the religious and philosophical context within which they argued against the traditional view of women's natural inferiority to men.

About the Author

Desmond M. Clarke is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the National University of Ireland, Cork. He was awarded a D.Litt from the National University of Ireland, was a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute and a Fulbright Scholar, and is a member of the Royal Irish Academy. He is the author of a number of books on seventeenth-century philosophy, and has also translated texts of the same period from Latin and French, including Descartes and Louis de la Forge.

I love this book. Knowing the Author is an added bonus! Highly Recommend this Daily Devotional...it's not like the typical daily devotional book. It gets to the heart of the matter. Trust is an issue

I didn't enjoy hearing the book because it appears that some section were skipping or it appeared to sound like a broken record. (I do not feel that it was the kindle app on the iPad, but maybe the quality of recording).

This is on the required reading for my doctoral program for educational leadership, administration, and policy but a lot of the example were geared towards the business and financial world.

Some example were geared towards family and somethings the educational world. My take way as are the four cores of credulity and thirteen behaviors of high-trust.

I will definitely re-read this book and dive deeper into the cores and behaviors as I make connections with other educational books.

Any leader be they in business, in a non for profit or raising a family should read this book. They should also insure everyone on their team read it.
NOT just buy it I mean read it.

I made both my boys read it upon graduation from high school then we talked about it.

I originally wrote The Venus School for an online website, and readers loved it so much they encouraged me to make it into a book, because they wanted to know what happened after Jessica went home. �I didn't really want to let go of the characters that I'd fallen in love with either, so I was excited to try my hand at self-publishing. �I loved exploring what happens when a fantasy menage relationship goes through once it hits reality and the characters have to deal with their friends and family. �There are a lot of ups, but a lot of downs too. �I also loved being able to introduce Stronghold using my favorite trio; Stronghold was a BDSM club that I'd had in mind to write about for a while and I figured, why not put everybody together? �It's worked out better than I could have hoped, especially because I still get to revisit Chris, Justin and Jessica on a regular basis, and it gave me a great way to introduce Hilary to an awesome man.

The puzzle comes together

Angels final book in the Venus series is an amazing story about well everything. With amazing conversations that seemed so much like really life that you laugh so hard because yes you know that embarasing mother, to the hot and heavy scenes that had me reaching for the glass of water, this book had them all.

But don't expect a nice neat completed puzzle, though the puzzle comes together in this book it doesn't spell out all the endings your stil left with questions and the amazing thing it feels like that's how it should end, with the stronghold series to come the puzzle will continue to grow and complete, and after reading transcendent you will be hanging to find out more about the other dominates from our favoourte club.

I'm going to miss this series

I enjoyed this ending--I can't really call it a conclusion because it feels like the characters will live on. Jessica, Chris, and Justin's relationship feels stable at this point, with hope for the future where her parents will become more open minded about what makes her happy.
I enjoy Liam and Hilary--the role playing was nicely written. I like the hints that have been given about the rest of the Doms, and what relationships they're going to need. The tease is making me anxious to read Adam's story.
Well done.

Ms. Angel I just want you to know I'm such a big fan of your books I read the first and second books of Stronghold before I read the quartet of Venus books. I want to let readers know that the Venus books are very good and should be read before Stronghold to get the best read,but not necessary. It's going to be hard waiting until winter for the next book but I will have to so I'm REALLY hoping that I will soon be reading another dealing with discipline book soon!!!!! I recommend all of these books to be read by anyone who likes discipline well worth it.

Too many little things off-center to make it great

I really looked forward to what is pretty much the first book that I found that is implementation focused, rather than theory focused, book on neural networks, and I really wanted to like it, but I just cannot. I've been playing with AI and Neural Networks for some time, and there's many good theory books but not many about what it takes to really implement a NN that works well. (I blogged a few things on my experiments in this space, but wanted to learn more from others)

This book is sadly not really an exception.

The book gives a very elementary introduction to coding the classical XOR network problem, but the code is at times beyond sloppy (like risking division by zero without even a basic check), and some basic things that could be done for readability (like a few simple functions for basic operations) aren't done. The narrative walks you through what it takes to build a NN, but only barely, and not really in an incremental way where you would have a program that does something useful after each step.

But beyond that, it goes totally flat in terms of suggesting improvements. With some very basic tweaks that are industry standard, you get a system that learns > 100x faster, but sadly the book doesn't even hint at those.

Also I found it strange in this time and age that the full program isn't just available for download somewhere, it's hard to cut-and-paste nicely (e.g. formatting/etc as used in programs) from a kindle book, so I basically had to retype the whole thing.

I hope the author is going to revise the book and his program, it does not take much to resolve most of the problems that stick out and turn this into a much better tutorial than it is right now.

Good Intro, So-So Code. Refer To My Git Repo For Python Implementation

I thought this book was a great introduction to neural networks at a code level. By actually creating the thing I was able to get a decent understanding of how neural networks function and I can already see some areas I want to dig into deeper. I think that was the point of this book; to give an introduction to a hard topic and get the reader up to speed enough to be able to tackle a bigger project.

As other reviews have noted, the code style is pretty bad (the o as a loop variable actually tripped me up in my own code!) but the core idea is there and explained better than if you were to just go look at someone's implementation, so I think it was worth while. I actually translated this into python and did a little cleanup as I went. I've pushed my python version to a repo and you are welcome to refer to it at the link below if you would like.

Could be a good book, but needs some fixing

I've become a little interested in AI as of late and though it would be good to toy around with making a Neural Network. After reading this book I can say that I understand the basic concepts of how to build one, but I can only give this book three stars. I wish that there was a little bit more meat to it (or some other sample problems we could make the Neural Network solve).

But my main issue has to be with the formatting of the code. While there are things in there that are legal in C++ (e.g. variables sharing the same name, but in different scopes), there are some bad programming practices used that undermine the clarity of the example. Another issue too is the font that was chosen to print the code. I cannot discern if something was a zero or an "O," character (many books I know use slashed zeros). It's even worse when the author used "o" as a variable name for a loop. The font choice wasn't good (Courier seems to be the standard for many programming books). I'd be willing to give this book four stars, but not with these problems.

About the Author
Jeffrey S. Tennant, MD is an individual investor. For over eight years he has been giving daily online analysis (most recently at www.timeandcycles.com) of the Standard and Poor's 500 Index. He has relied heavily on the MEJT System to make his predictions, and he wrote this book because of the large number of requests he received from traders who wished to learn his methodology. Jeffrey Tennant posts a daily video of MEJT System analysis on his YouTube channel: http://tinyurl.com/jt-mejt In addition to performing technical analysis of the stock market, which he has done for over 30 years, his lifelong interests include ophthalmology, trivia and chess. Not totally convinced of this concept, but maybe in due time...

Being actively involved in day and swing trading the market for over 10 years, I was really hoping this book would provide some new useful insight to my analysis. To some degree, I'd say it did introduce a new concept, or way, of looking at the market, but I would hardly call this a helpful "daytrading" system. In fact, I find that subtitle very misleading as the system suggests a target is usually hit within 1 to 2 days and if not, it can become "open" forever. At the very least, it suggests a bias with a potential target...figuring out when and how that is fulfilled? Good luck.

Initially I also found this to be a very skeptical concept to swallow...that a particular timeframe can repeatedly predict a future price point. There are a number of "rules" that must be met to require such valid signals, which takes time getting used to and identifying.

I'd say the biggest issue I have with the system is I haven't figured out how to make any money from it. Sure I can see the signals and MEJT targets, but then what? Trade the SPY? The e-minis? some stocks? I've been unable to successfully trade these signals, mostly due to the 1-2 day timeframe in which they remain open.

I suppose the most important thing is in the first few pages of the book...as it states, this is simply just another "tool" to use in your trading. If you're looking for another "tool" then by all means, check this book out. It is a somewhat "new concept" but as I noted, tough to swallow. I

I've been trying to make note of the signals each day, but honestly I don't put much weight on them. Perhaps if there was a way to see it in action and/or successfully traded by the author or other reviewers, I'd be more optimistic about applying this concept.

Maybe I'm not being fair here, so I'll give the book another re-read soon and update this review if my view of it changed or I start making money from it.

The MEJT System (Soft cover edition)

Although I have been trading for three decades I do not consider myself a professional trader (I have a full time R&D job and I am not a day trader), none the less I find this book well written , clearly illustrated and easily applicable to my trading style. I was able to understand the author's methodology quickly after only a brief review of the books content and was able to put on a successful trade which more than covered the cost of this book. Over the years I have read many books on trading the markets and have had limited success however I find this one a real "keeper".
This book focuses on an elegant yet simple price support/resistance trading method applied specifically to the S&P 500 Index (SPX) at certain 10 minute intervals on the daily time frame. In general the authors' technique is designed for day trading. Yet depending on market conditions the author explains that a trade may carryover for a few days. The author provides clear back tested examples in order to reinforce the concepts. I find that this technique suits my trend trading orientation even in the current trend-less market (i.e. on the weekly/monthly time frame), when reinforced with other internal market indicators, this tool can be extremely helpful in entering a trade and setting targets. Simply put, this technique provides me with confidence to anticipate the not so obvious short-term market direction. Along with prudent risk management, this trading tool is highly valuable to me and I intend to apply its edge whenever setting future trades.

An outlier

So many "trading" books are written using a template: a) present general market concepts; b) throw in a measure of a risk management discussion; c) describe different type of execution orders; d) equipment to use to execute your trades; e) 1/4 of a teaspoon of trading strategies based on the same basic "indicators"; f) examples of mostly successfully executed trades. Then the book is presented as "useful enough for a professional and novice alike."

I must say that this book is much different. Author doesn't waste your time on useless banter about the same old well known concepts. He shares his truly unique approach to markets in a concise and clear manner. There are no Bollinger bands or Fibs or RSI references - only empirical evidence of a profound market insight gained from years of daily observation of S&P.

Sorry to disappoint Holy Grail seekers: I don't know that every reader of the book can instantly acquire the skills that will put her/him ahead of the trading crowd, but that is one of the reasons this approach is such a gem, else it would become useless the moment thousands began using it.

My goal in exploring different trading approaches is to glean something new and unique from the styles of successful traders and add a little something to my own style - I have certainly accomplished that having read this book, and I've added a lot more than $40 worth of market knowledge to my collection.

A Must Have in CPS

I teach in a Chicago Public School so even though most of my students are desperately behind, we don't have proper RTI/MTSS resources. This little gem is truly wonderful for identifying areas of weakness and for helping students gain a deep understanding of fifth grade math concepts. I love how quick and convenient it is--the lessons are fast and simple. Even more importantly--the kids love it. There was a lot of whining about the pre-assessment (24 pages...) but they love working in small groups and they find most of it pretty easy so it really builds their confidence. Math is fun! Math is easy!
