Whoa! Ava is a busy been and with good reason. Ava and her cousin Toni. Its been the two of them for a long time. They move a lot, and its not fair to Toni, but Toni understands. Ava needs to keep moving, trying to stay one step ahead at all times.

They finally settle in New York. Hopefully they will be here the longest, or stay for good. Right now she needs to be at work. She loves animals so the pet store is a great job for her. Things are going well and Ava isn't as worried. So when a guy comes in for a pet she thinks nothing of it, after all he does seem human enough for her.

So when he comes back with another guy to get advice about the new pet, she is nice and helps them out. Never thinks they could be dangerous or vampires. But somehow Ava was wrong. The guys take her and everything moves fast.

Michael and Evan. Vampires. Michael has been looking for Ava. He wants her. Wants to turn her and become a family. Ava wants none of this. Evan doesn't even want it. But he's being forced ad doesn't seem like he wants to tell Michael no. Ava has amazing strength and will power. She never gives up, she is fighting to survive and get away. No matter how bad she gets hurt, she tries and tires and tries. She is just an amazing character.

I freaking loved this book! I've read other books by Nikki, and her writing is out of the park once again! She takes these ideas and turns it into an amazing read. You get hooked quickly and won't want to put it down.

Ummm...yea. I had a hard time coming up with a review for this book. Why? I'm emotionally drained. A book hangover if you will. Now while it took a lot out of me, I must say that there's a giddy side of me that is just gushing with excitement because I've read the Sunshine series and this book is the pre cursor to Sophie's story. We see how it all began. We see the WHY but it isn't justified.

This story is one of survival. Ava, our main character, has the knowledge that there are indeed vampires living among her. Her parents taught her how to block them out of her head. She's so on guard that she moves from place to place. She has an anxiety disorder. Which really made me feel like taking a Xanax myself. It's not that it was reading how an anxiety attack starts, it was what she went through that had my heart pounding, me breathless, and of course I was scared. Michael is a sadistic, cruel monster. He has a twisted way of looking at love. He's followed Ava since she was a little girl, when he first came in contact with her. He always came up empty because he was always a step behind until he finds her in NY. I hate Michael. I don't care about why he is the way he is. Yes, his parents were wrong in what they did. Yes he got his revenge on them but why couldn't that be enough? Maybe because he's a vampire and certain instincts are more fierce than when you're human? Nope. Not buying it. Vampire or not, you have a choice. To do good or do evil. Obviously, he chose evil. And every human he has come into contact with has met an unfortunate end. All except Ava. But she doesn't escape so easily. Not without a daily reminder that she's been infected with his blood. You see what she goes through in the Sunshine books. It was not pretty. If anything it's painful & horrifying.
I want to talk about two characters I left out. One, Evan. I first met him in the Sunshine series and I honestly thought he was a creep. However, I no longer feel that way. Yes, he helped Michael in taking Ava, but he kept telling her they were going to get away from Michael. We learn of Evan's story with his sister Katya. Michael has Evan caught by blood. So of course he has to do what Michael says or else.
*It turned out there were far worse things than death.*
And two, Myles. If I was in love with Myles when I read Sunshine then after reading this story I love him even more. Myles is the epitome of a good vampire. Just the total opposite of Michael. Myles treasures life. Myles is one of my favorite vampires, EVER!! He knows what Michael is capable of and that's why he does what he does.
I am a huge fan of Nikki Rae & her writing. It is raw, unique, horrifying, and beautiful. I was enthralled and enticed into Ava's story. So much so I stayed up into the early morning to see how it ended. Afterwards, it makes you want to go read the Sunshine series all over again!! All I have left to say is, "Well done, Nikki Rae."

I was pleasantly surprised by Animal. It was a great mix of horror and fantasy. The author kept the story going at a fast pace, skillfully limiting flashbacks and exposition of backstory. I appreciated that there were no information dumps and the story’s goal became apparent very early on in the story.

The basic storyline is: Ava, a young woman who is gifted with animals, is abducted, held captive, and tortured by a vampire named Michael who believes they are meant to be together and will stop at nothing to break her and make her his. Evan, another vampire, is forced to help Michael despite Evan’s desire to help Ava.

Both Ava and Evan are characters who evoke sympathy. Ava’s panic attacks are realistic and justified. I didn’t necessarily agree with her strategy for escape, but I could understand it, and I liked that she tried to take matters into her own hands. She never gave up, even when it appeared at times that she had. Evan, although helping Michael, tries to be kind to Ava. He’s a likable character. Michael was a believable villain. His motivations were clear and made sense.

Although the book is listed as urban fantasy, it lacks the kick-ass heroine and extensive worldbuilding that are typical of urban fantasy. I didn’t mind about the heroine–it’s a nice change to see someone vulnerable–and the worldbuilding isn’t relevant to this plot because it takes place in only a few locations in isolation.

The story is told from both first and third person point of view. I didn’t like this because I felt like I was being disconnected from Ava when it switched to Michael, Evan, or Toni’s point of view. Because first person is very intimate, I didn’t want to leave Ava. However, I understand the need for some scenes to be told from other points of view. I think I would have liked it better if the entire book had been written from third person, rather than shifting between the two.

This book is not for squeamish readers. Some parts were scary and bloody. I didn’t mind; in fact I loved those scenes because they were terrifying but not overly sadistic.

If you don’t like cliffhanger endings, you probably won’t like Animal. Some of the plot points are resolved, but not all of them.

I enjoyed reading Animal. I recommend it to readers who like vampire stories with only a hint of potential romance. I give Animal 4.5 stars for fast pacing, excellent characterization, and a different kind of urban fantasy heroine.

Outstanding, Well-Engineered, Classic, Beautiful Patterns!

I've been knitting, crocheting, sewing, weaving, and designing for decades, and I'm extremely picky about the patterns I choose to spend time on. Without fail, Kristen has shown a remarkable gift for designing the best-engineered sweaters I've ever seen--Bar None. When you add to this her extraordinary ability to create cutting-edge fashions and her clear, user-friendly instructions, Kristen is a designer to be followed! This book continues to take us to more great ways to craft beautiful clothing with a minimum of the aggravation that "finishing" can cause. A True Keeper!

Versatile, timeless sweaters plus a lot of extras helping the knitter customize fit and personalize the style

If you like knitting sweaters but aren't crazy about the finishing process, then you'll definitely want to check out "No-Sew Knits," by designer Kristen TenDyke. Twenty lovely patterns for women's sweaters are included, with chapter order roughly corresponding to difficulty from easiest to hardest. Chapter 1 includes basic stitch patterns like garter stitch, stockinette, and moss; Chapter 2 provides six patterns and six stitch patterns that can be mixed and matched to suit the maker's preferences (each stitch pattern uses the same multiple in its repeat) incorporating cables, lacy stitches and texture; Chapter 3 focuses on lace stitchwork; and Chapter 4 features cables. Especially helpful are sections allowing customizing patterns, for example a section that shows how to add a hood to any sweater; how to knit seamless hems; adding seamless pockets; adding bust darts; tips for shaping lace, and so on. The patterns are mostly cardigans and pullovers, with some vests, shrugs and tanks in the mix. One thing that Interweave knows how to do is publish beautiful books, and "No-Sew Knits" is no exception. Nice big size, lots of clear color photographs, charts, schematics, and plenty of tips and tricks. Stitch patterns are both written out and charted, a bonus for those who have a strong preference for one or the other. Yarn weights range from chunky to fingering, with workhorse worsted-weight most frequently used. Sizes range is generous; most garments start at 29-32 inch finished bust circumference and go up to 50+ inch finished bust circumference.

So if you'd like to explore the world of seamless sweaters, or just are looking for a timeless collection of versatile sweaters, "No-Sew Knits" is an excellent choice.

Appealing designs and more

While knitting separate garment pieces is easy enough, for many knitters sewing the pieces together is a major pain and unfortunately that fussy finish work often makes or breaks the end result. Thankfully, TenDyke’s second collection of twenty very wearable patterns does away with that headache. The author also provides a treasure trove of helpful design tips to aid in making each piece your own though with garments as lovely as the Sensual Open Cardigan, it seems pointless to change anything. Gently fitted, this sweater features openwork lace panels as front bands and cuff detailing which provides a feminine touch without overdoing it. Knit from side to side, the Wholesome Coat utilizes a provisional cast on along the center back and short rows to create a softly shaped collar. Although shown in a solid color yarn, this pattern would show off that fabulous hand dyed yarn you have stashed away. Clean lines accentuated with a textured leaf design make the Tender Hoodie the ideal choice for any age. The hood construction allows it wrap around the head without excess bulk and the plethora of helpful tips and designing information will allow knitters to confidently add a custom hood to any sweater.

Interweave’s signature cookbook style presentation along with plenty of photographs and in-depth instructions make each pattern approachable, even for beginners. Most of the pullovers and cardigans include a bit of waist shaping which is great if you are curvy but those of a more rectangular shape might consider doing away with that and isn’t that one of the benefits of creating your own piece? The schematics are a real plus, especially if you are substituting yarns and the charts are large enough to read without enlarging and include helpful symbol keys for those not used to them. The designs themselves are attractive garments real people would want to receive, wear and enjoy. All the extra designing information alone make this book well worth the price but don’t be surprised if you are tempted to start at least two projects right away. Es un libro de lectura amena y lleno, lleno de sabidur�a. Cada cap�tulo tiene mucha tela para cortar, mucho tema para reflexionar y para hacernos conscientes de nuestra realidad como seres especiales. Arturo nos da muchas t�cnicas para disfrutar de una vida "v�vida" de sensaciones y experiencias. Vale la pena leerlo con detenimiento y por supuesto volverlo a leer!

Best pc build book out there up to date

Real good book. It's really informative the only thing was instead of dollars sign it was euro sign but the price is the same i thought I was going have to conver but it was only off by a dollar or two. It's up to date on the technology super great book with tons of illustration

Great book for starters

Very few PC building books these days are up to date. Most are so old they still talk about using 56K modems. Do they even still sell those? But this book is GREAT!! Its up to date. The version I have is 2015. Talks about all the NEW CPU's and GPU's even the Titan video card is in this book and even talking about the new Titan Z I believe it was called. This is a great book for ppl that have never built a PC before. And great to help get a idea on how much you might be spending to build your own custom rig. If you go by what it says in this book you will deff build a sweet gaming PC that will have you smiling ear to ear and have your bank account nice n full n happy

The Tao of Islam is a rich and diverse anthology of Islamic teachings on the nature of the relationships between God and the world, the world and the human being, and the human being and God. Focusing on gender symbolism, Sachiko Murata shows that Muslim authors frequently analyze the divine reality and its connections with the cosmic and human domains with a view toward a complementarity or polarity of principles that is analogous to the Chinese idea of yin/yang.

Murata believes that the unity of Islamic thought is found, not so much in the ideas discussed, as in the types of relationships that are set up among realities. She pays particular attention to the views of various figures commonly known as "Sufis" and "philosophers," since they approach these topics with a flexibility and subtlety not found in other schools of thought. She translates several hundred pages, most for the first time, from more than thirty important Muslims including the Ikhwan al-Safa', Avicenna, and Ibn al-'Arabi.

Gender and spiritual cosmology: the BIG picture

In "The Tao of Islam" Sachiko Murata uses the lens of gender ideas in Islam to explore in a comparative religious framework the idea of a spirtual cosmology based on feminine and masculine principles. Although she is aware of the contemporary issues of women's legal status in Islam, she feels that such issues are not as fundamental as understanding the true role of gender within the cosmos. Those seeking arguments about whether the legal provisions of the Sharia (Islamic law) are or are not culpably sexist and what should be done about them if they are will not find much meat for their arguments in this book. Murata writes relatively clearly, and the writers she cites are often fascinating and insightful. They are, however, frequently prolix and I must say I found the book somewhat repetitive at times. (For this reason I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5.)

Professor Murata presents in this book a philosophy well-known to Platonism and which was also once familiar in the Christian West, but which is in danger of vanishing. In this philosophy, God, the cosmos (or the macrocosm), and the human self (microcosm) are the three great realities with the latter two stemming from and returning to God. The cosmos around us, and especially the human being in a superlative way, manifest as a kind of shadow the attributes of God. The highest purpose of studying the cosmos and the human self is thus to learn to recognize these manifestations of God's nature. Islamic writers in the Sufi Islamic tradition correlated these attributes into two fundamental families, that of majesty, awe, punishment, masculine, etc., and that of beauty, intimacy, mercy, feminine, etc. God is beautiful as well as majestic, intimate as well as awe-inspiring, merciful as well as punishing. Jalal (majesty) and jamal (beauty) are analogous to yang and yin of Chinese writings, while God matches the eternal Tao ("Way").

To manifest both His yang/jamal and His yin/jalal attributes visibly, God creates within the cosmos and human nature paired relations of yang-yin, jalal-jamal: heaven and earth, intellect and soul (both universal and in each person), spirit and nature, men and women. The productivity and fertility of these pairs is the sign of God's own abundance overflowing from His majesty and beauty. Things in the cosmos manifest these relations naturally, but human beings, having freedom, frequently damage these relation, with the yin elements rebelling against the yang and the yang elements forgetting their yin relation to God and tyrannizing over the yin.

As the creator and governor of all, God is primarily experienced by His creation naturally as powerful, active, and bright, i.e. jalal or yang. As a result God cannot normally be experienced by His creation but as a He, that is to say as manifesting yang/jalal attributes. Yet Sufi writers also recognize that God's Essence, apart from its relation with the cosmos, is like the true Tao mysterious, dark, and hidden from the sight and is thus in an absolute sense feminine. Yet such an understanding of God's yin/jamal nature must always be an esoteric understanding, compared to the exoteric understanding of God as yang/jalal.

Murata points out that the real enemy of this view of gender is not so much feminism (although feminism is certainly hostile to it), but the purely materialist vision of natural science. Materialism inquire only into mechanism, sees the cosmos and humanity as purposeless, and rejects the correlative thinking that sees the world around and inside us as keys to knowing God. Science has given us so much new knowledge about creation, yet we have not yet made sense of it as God's creation, demonstrating His attributes.

As Murata acknowledges, Islam's gendered cosmology is only one, albeit strikingly clear and articulate, contribution in the long tradition of spiritual cosmology. Murata compares Islamic cosmology to the Tao but her treatment of "Taoism" is the weakest part of the book. Her main source for "Taoism" is a superficial reading of the Yijing (I ching), but the Yijing is quite as much Confucian as it is Taoist, if not more (see the twelfth-century Neo-Confucian anthology "Reflections on Things at Hand" translated by Hok-lam Chan). Murata adheres closely to the ABC rule for modern spiritual writers ("anything but Christianity"), but the Christian readers will find in this book thought-provoking parallels to the several pairs of creation (light-dark, dry-wet, man-woman etc.) in Genesis 1, the feminine Wisdom as God's instrument in creation in Proverbs 8, the divine-human marriage language in Psalm 45 and Ephesians 5, and the structuring duality of works (jalal/yang) and grace (jamal/yin), Law and Gospel, Moses and Christ in St. Paul's epistles and St. John's gospel. Those involved in the debates over gender and sexuality now wracking parts of the Christian church will find Murata's book a powerful reminder that gender is not something under human control that we can remake as we wish--instead human gender is only one reflection of the fundamentally gendered fabric of the cosmos, itself made by God.

An excellent comparison of Taoist and Islamic philosophy

The Tao of Islam is not an easy read, but is a must for any Taoist who's interested in Islamic philosophy, any Muslim who's interested in Taoism, or any student of comparitive religion and philosophy. Although Islam and Taoism seem poles apart, the author makes a detailed analysis of Islamic philosophers, particularly Ibn al-Arabi, to show that despite the cultural differences, many of the basic principles are the same in both philosophies.

Kathy Hoopmann is best known for All Cats have Asperger Syndrome, Inside Asperger's Looking Out and The Asperger Adventure series and the simplicity, charm and insight of these books has made them must-haves for explaining the diagnoses of Asperger's worldwide. It seems like this book was written specifically for MY SON. So refreshing! It's written as a reference guide, but I couldn't put it down. I read it cover to cover. I can't wait to share it with his support team; teachers, therapists, family members...
