About the Author

Thomas R. Dye, Emeritus McKenzie Professor of Government at Florida State University, regularly taught large introductory classes in American politics. He received his B. A. and M. A. degrees from Pennsylvania State University and his Ph. D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of numerous books and articles on American government and public policy, including The Irony of Democracy; Politics in States and Communities; Understanding Public Policy; Who’s Running America?; American Politics in the Media Age; Power in Society; Politics, Economics, and the Public; and American Federalism: Competition Among Governments. His books have been translated into many languages, including Russian and Chinese, and published abroad. Dye has served as president of the Southern Political Science Association, president of the Policy Studies Organization, and secretary of the American Political Science Association. He has taught at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Georgia, and served as a visiting scholar at Bar- Ilan University, Israel; the Brookings Institution in Washington, D. C.; and elsewhere. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi and is listed in most major biographical directories. Biased

This was the required reading for a public policy class. There is no room for compromise in this text. Unless you are a far-right wing Republican, you will find this book closed minded and advocating an approach to 1950's style public policy. I would never have read past the first chapter if I wasn't required to read this book. The binding is the cheapest of card stock, and the pages are thin, almost like newsprint. For almost $100, you would think they would print on something a little more substantial.

Yes, the book, like others have mentioned, is not unbiased. You'd be advised to go into it knowing that you're going to have to read around the bias to get something out of this book. However, I imagine that if you already realize that this book is biased then you won't drink the Kool-Aid.

There are things I like about this book. It is straight forward and clear. I like the fact that the author has kept chapter lengths reasonable without a lot of unneeded fluff.

Highly Biased Book

I had to read this book for my Public Policy class. I classify myself as an open minded Democrat and can compromise fairly easily with people who hold different opinions/beliefs than mine. However, in a Public Policy class taught at the college level I was rolling my eyes and disgusted while reading this. The author is quite clearly a Republican and frequently refers to Democrats as "opponents" within the book. Maybe I should rethink going to school in Tennessee.

Perfect for daily exercises.

I've been looking for a book that would have a good amount of exercises that don't just give a situational prompt for you to work from. Both of Kiteley's books have exercises that help you with different elements of writing as well as providing useful tips and examples. I would recommend this book to any writer who is looking to expand on their style and practice their flexibility.

This book was a disappointment. I have ceased from purchasing any more how to write books. They all say the same thing. If you have any book on writing fiction, it probably covers the same ground as this one. I gave it three stars because there's nothing wrong with the advice. It's just not the least bit new or different

Great workbook for beginning Korean learners!

This book is great! It is meant to be a supplement to the free Korean lessons provided online at talktomeinkorean.com (affectionately known as TTMIK). Their audio podcast lessons are short and concise, so they are not intimidating or overwhelming at all. In fact, Hyunwoo and Kyeong-eun (the podcast's hosts) make learning Korean a lot of fun! Besides the audio podcasts, they also provide free PDFs of the lessons, and much more!

All of that said, even though it is very fun to listen to TTMIK and learn Korean, the best way to find out if you have really learned something is to test yourself, and that is what is great about this book. It gives you exercises to practice what you have learned, and answer keys in the back to check if you got it right.There are many types of exercises included in the book, including writing, dictation, vocabulary, etc.

The only thing I didn't like was that a few of the exercises (and by few, I mean about two) have "answers will vary" in the answer key. I would have preferred if they had structured those particular exercises so that only one answer was possible, and I could check and see if the sentence I had written was any good.

I had actually finished listening to all of the Level 1 podcasts before deciding to purchase the Level 1 textbook, and I am happy to say that because of the great teaching by Hyunwoo and Kyeong-eun, I remembered most of what I learned from the podcasts, and I was able to finish the workbook very quickly! I think it is intended to be used slowly while you are listening to the podcasts, though. :)

I have already bought the workbook for Level 2 and am excited to begin soon. If you are interested in learning Korean, TTMIK is a must! :D Start out by checking out talktomeinkorean.com, and it won't be long before you fall in love with this beautiful language, too!

Recommend to everybody who wants to learn Korean!

Definitely a must buy for self learning Korean. The exercises are actually pretty good at helping you learn and memorise the vocabulary. I used TTMIK when I first started learning Korean, before they released the workbook or normal study book, and they were will fantastic. The only problem I really have is that sometimes the vocabulary practices have words that I have never encountered before. But I probably just missed them out somewhere.

This is the workbook for Talk To Me Korean Level That book is pretty much a need if you're going to buy this one.

If you are new to the Korean language, this book is definitely the best learning tool for you! Talk to Me in Korean has free audio lessons online that correspond with this book. The audio lessons are great as well. The lessons are bite sized, and are easy to process. The activities in the book are also very helpful in putting what you learned to practice, Honestly, there isn't a better book out there. I would recommend all of their materials.

A most imaginative insight into man's creativity

This fascinating work is more a collection of essays than it is a continuous volume. However the descriptions in each archaeological and bio-neurological section are indisputably accurate and written in a clear language with contributions of leading academics. There is no room for circumstantial evidence as the analogies here presented are indubitably justified.They lead to the hypothesis of an underlying non-conscious cognitive process. The authors, Philippe Roi and Tristan Girard, will reveal, in a forthcoming volume, the thesis by which a 'neural code' would elucidate the causes and consequences of the analogies presented in this first tome. The illustrations are excellent and add to the understanding of the given analogies. There is no doubt that this publication will lead to fierce opposition, as it is the case with every significant contribution to the corpus of neural-scientific research, and will help strengthen the thesis.

Original, Exciting Scholarship

This is a fascinating and I think ground-breaking book, whose argument is backed up with excellent illustrations. It enhances our understanding of how the senses function, and how the development of various instruments has been inspired by them. It is clear, readable and intellectually stimulating. A great book.
