However, anyone practicing its guidelines and suggestions can find a life of peace, joy and freedom from fear.

A thorough journey through the twelve steps. Patrick Carnes is a pioneer in Sexual Addiction Recovery and has written a twelve step workbook in a simplified and concise way. This book covers all compulsive and addictive behaviors such as alcohol, drugs, food, sex, money etc. I have used this book for over twenty years beginning with myself and then working with others. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

Some helpful suggestions, but defintely not the end all be all of 12 step guides. Remember, most of these "Guides" are written by individuals, not by group concience of any 12 step program. Therefore someone is making a profit over spritiual principles that are freely available and that SHOULD be freely given away.

I noticed in step 4 he has a section about "bad" anger and then "good" anger. This division is NOT in the Big Book of Alcoholics anonymous. This is purely some group therapy thing Carnes came up with. According to the Big Book, we addicts have to strive be free of anger. Period. I still get angry, don't get me wrong, but the difference is that I take action to turn away from anger. This is one big problem I have with the book. The 12 and 12 of AA is much better.

Tab and Strum pattern

The problem with internet tabulature websites is you are never sure they are 100% right - as evidenced by dozens of 'versions' of the same song. As a kid growing up in the 70's I was a Croce fan by virtue of my parents being Croce fans. This book contains the chord tabulature, but also the finger style. In addition, each song contains a recommended strum pattern or picking pattern, one of the hardest things for novice guitar players to pick up, in my experience. This book was gold for the cost, I highly recommend it.

Dresden 1945 is an revisionist's dream. McKee, a Canadian veteran of the war who entered the Western Front in March 1945 and was assigned to serve in the British Zone for seven years has written a clear account of the successful Allied effort at mass genocide of the innocent. McKee explores the military planning, the morality and eventual responsibility that the allies face in making the decision to murder hundreds of thousands of civilians. Brandy soaked Churchill's erratic personality and military decision making capabilities are rightfully questioned particularly when it came to his decision to firebomb Dresden to impress Uncle Joe Stalin. McKee is not afraid to use statistics to support his findings. For example, British civilian losses in 5 and one-half years of war were 60,595 where in Germany and elsewhere to include Holland, Belgium, France, Italy and other countries were in the millions. He is not bashful to show that the demi-god Monty boasted that the Germans could no longer mount any offensives in December 1945 henceforth the Ardennes Offensive was a complete surprise to the egotistical and inept British commander. Dresden's firebombing should have never taken place. McKee's estimates of 35,000 to 70,000 deaths are of course too low and are partly based on Communist propaganda. German Police and Governmental death toll figures which have been hidden for decades show that in 15 hours of bombing, Churchill was personally responsible for the deaths of over 480,000 people. This story of another Allied War Crime which would fit nicely under its own 1945 Nuremberg War Crimes definitions is a dramatic truth that needed to be told regardless of some arrogant Allied protests.

This is a very good ethnography which compares two elementary schools, one predominately working class and the other predominately upper middle class, in California. Contrary to the pernicious stereotypes which many of us entertain, Lareau found that working class parents are just as interested in education for their children as upper middle class parents. However, working class parents are predisposed to defer to the judgment of teachers, guidance counselors, and other school officials, whom they regard as professionals with special skills and insights. As a result, poor grades, assignment to a devalued group, and stern discipline for real or imagined misbehavior go unchallenged.

By sharp contrast, upper middle class parents have tacitly adopted the motto "my kid -- right or wrong, smart or stupid, hardworking or lazy -- he or she will succeed." Upper middle class parents are effectively instrusive, well connected, and tend to regard teachers as pseudo-professionals, their social inferiors.

Having read Lareau's account, it's easy to see why other ethnographers have found upper middle class resistance to the elimination of curriculum tracking. Upper middle class parents know how to work the system to secure advantages for their children.

Some readers may judge that the quality of Lareau's ethnography would be improved had she spent as much time with working class parents as with upper middle class parents. However, the upper middle class parents were purposefully ubiquitous, while the working class parents were respectfully remote. Thus, this seeming deficiency may reasonably be construed as but a reflection of the way the world works.

In "Home Advantage," Annette Lareau examines the question of who gets ahead in public schooling and what causes social reproduction. Specifically, she looks to connect the social institutions of the home, the school and the occupation to see how each affects the children at a young age.

To examine this question, she goes to two schools (Prescott and Colton are the aliases). Prescott consists of mainly upper-middle class families, while Colton consists of lower-class families. Lareau finds that teachers at both schools ask the same thing of parents however, the Prescott parents become much more actively involved (to the point of annoyance in some cases) than do Colton parents. She raises the question of why this is so.

She refers to one sociologist throughout the book (Pierre Bordieu) and uses his term of "cultural capital" quite frequently.

The issue appears to boil down (at least in Lareau's mind) to two main causes (however, the problem is too complex to be narrowed down that greatly). These causes are confidence and the "cultural captial" of each family. The Colton families usually were either high school graduates or drop outs and felt intimidated by the teachers expertise while the Prescott families felt that the teachers were the equals (if not, their superiors) and felt comfortable confronting teachers about problems they felt with their children. Besides this Lareau addresses cultural capital and the linkages between home, school and work in the book.

While this above is all fine, there were two major problems with the book. One was the glaring errors in the book (talking about typos and stuff here), this really didn't detract from the substance of the book but I (being nit-picky like I am) found this annoying and distracting. The mistakes included using "stronly" instead of "strongly", "they very greatly" instead of "they vary greatly" and misspelling Bordieu's name at one point (Bordiew). While I realize that this happens in every book, the errors seemed more obvious, evident and numerous in Home Advantage.

The other problem is more serious. Lareau uses her data to imply changes to the system to end social reproduction and help fix the class issue. However, she appears to have swallowed the achievement ideology of success herself. Instead of talking about the vast social and political changes that are very likely needed to change the system, Lareau implies that a few changes to the school system will fix everything and then the great meritocracy will occur. This seems rather naive in my opinion and I think that this is the greatest detractor from the whole book.

I love that it is spiritually based and the Author focuses ...

This book is not for the faint at heart. It's is about transformational change that will revolutionize you and your relationships. The concepts are simple, yet profound and not often practiced. I love that it is spiritually based and the Author focuses on ME changing and as I changes, so do my relationships.

The earlier reviewer clearly didn't read ALL of the book and if she did, didn't walk away with the life changing, power-affirming thoughts/feelings that I did. How can someone question what/how another her from the Almighty? I digress.....

In short, this teaching, this gift, this great lesson was nothing short of amazing. I have not only READ the book but have also put many of the concepts into PRACTICE so I know them to be true and they have transformed my life and love relationships....with not only men but with EVERYONE.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy....don't just take my word for it. I promise, you won't be disappointed.

A MUST read!

This book is AMAZING! I read half of it in one day- couldn't put it down. As a fan of personal development books I am no stranger to this type of book AND, I must say "The Love Lies" is totally refreshing and different in all the best ways. I was able to immediately implement some of the teachings with a couple of the dates I had. Debrena's message is completely timely. Ladies, we ARE "the living gift", let this book transform how you approach relationships, it has already started doing that for me.

A Game Changer!!!

This book was definitely a GAME CHANGER! From the title of the chapters to each turning page, it was on point. I shared this book with many other women and men and received the same response, OUTSTANDING and definitely ON POINT! This book touched me as I read it and identified with so many things. For me, I really appreciate the truth and someone just being honest and real about the way we think and live our lives. I made a decision earlier on to live in my truth and make every effort to live my best life. The Love Lies is a positive book that assist you with really looking inward and loving yourself and working on your goals, I felt energized to take control and do something. I felt good about men and looked forward to continuing a positive connection in all my interactions with men. When you ready the table of contents you'll see what I mean, it may be hard to go in order and not jump around the chapters to get to the topics catching your eye, but no matter how you read it, it's a must read!
