Montana Cherries has my Highest Recommendation
By PJ Ausdenmore
When her mother died in a car accident, eighteen-year-old Dani Wilde left college in New York City and returned home to Montana to help raise her younger brothers. Over the past fourteen years, she has devoted her life to fulfilling the promise she made to her mother to watch over the family if anything ever happened to her. She runs the household, cooks the meals, does the laundry, helps care for her young niece, and is an invaluable asset to the family's cherry business. But now that her youngest brother has graduated college and will be coming home to take over the books for the orchard, Dani is on the cusp of realizing her own dreams. She's obtained a college degree through online courses, established a successful marketing business in Montana and in four short weeks will be moving to New York City to reclaim the dream that was cut short when she returned home all those years ago. Now is not the time for Ben Denton, her brother's college friend and the man to whom Dani gave her virginity, to re-enter her life along with his adorable, newly discovered daughter. It's clear Ben has no idea how to be a father to Haley, a child who undoubtedly has been traumatized by being left with a stranger when she's abandoned by the only parent she's ever known. Of course, Dani, "the fixer," steps in to help and it's no surprise that her emotions become entangled with both of them.

Ben Denton is no stranger to abandonment. As a child, his movie star mother had little time for him. After his grandmother's death, when seven-year-old Ben was forced to leave his grandparents' ranch and live with his mother in Hollywood, the only times he felt part of a family were when he was with his college buddy, Gabe Wilde's family at their Montana home. He hasn't seen them in ten years - his celebrity photographer lifestyle takes him around the world - but when his life's turned upside down with the discovery of an unknown child, he turns to the best family he knows...to the woman he never quite forgot...and heads for Montana.

It's immediately apparent that the connection between Ben and Dani is still there. Their attraction for one another sizzles and the friendship that was always strong and easy, flourishes. They both understand that nothing can come of it, of course. In a few short weeks, Dani will move to the other side of the country. Ben isn't interested in having his, or his daughter's, heart broken. But the more time they spend together, the more invested they become in the relationship. Are they headed for a happy ending or will someone's heart be shattered?

In Montana Cherries, Law has created a complex, compelling drama that encompasses not only our romantic couple but the entire Wilde family. To the outside world, the Wildes have always presented the picture of the perfect, happy, cohesive unit. They've been well trained, even if Dani doesn't consciously remember that training. But the tides are shifting, bringing dark secrets and memories consigned to the deep recesses of Dani's mind floating back to the surface. Dani's brothers are keeping secrets from her. Not that they are intentionally trying to exclude her. No, what they are trying to do is protect her - they've spent the past fourteen years protecting her, even if she doesn't know that - and ensure that, after giving so much of herself to them over the years, she will now have the opportunity to follow her dreams to New York. They want nothing to stand in her way but, slowly, in bits and pieces, truths begin to emerge; truths that will not only impact Dani's relationships with her father and brothers but will challenge her own self-worth as well as her place in the family and, of course, her relationship with Ben. In light of what she learns, will she choose to give her relationship with Ben a chance? Will she even be capable of the love and trust required?

Montana Cherries is one of the best books I've read this year. Mental illness is a topic that is often misunderstood; hidden behind closed doors or spoken of in whispers, if it's brought out at all but Law faces it head-on in this complex and compelling story. It's impact is felt throughout the Wilde family, from their father to Dani and all four of her brothers. These are not perfect characters. They are all flawed, their relationships often messy, but they are real.

Montana Cherries is a book that should not be missed. It has my highest recommendation.

This book is so unlike anything that I have ever read in this genre and I really enjoyed it.
By Heather
This book is so unlike anything that I have ever read in this genre and I really enjoyed it. While it is also a sweet, sweet love story, Montana Cherries addresses something very, very serious, but is so beautifully written that it never feels too heavy or too overwhelming. I have to admit to being completely floored when the big reveal happened, and wanting to hug the main character.

I loved the children in this book. So often I will read a book and wonder if the author had ever even met a child, but Jenna and Haley were SO perfectly written that I couldn't help but grin whenever they were mentioned.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD – there is no way to talk about this book without spoilers.

Despite all of her issues, Dani is an incredibly likable character. When she finally and realized what was happening in her life and the things that she'd repressed, I couldn't help but want her to get her happily ever after. I wanted her to get help so that she could find a way to let her family and Ben back into her life, and Kim Law made all of that happen in a beautiful way (yes, it was accelerated due to this being a novel and not a text book on proper recovery methods and time periods). I thought it was fabulous that she went to NYC and found herself, even though I will admit to questioning whether or not she would ever return to Montana. I love love love that she went back on her terms and figured her life out instead of just running back to let Ben take care of her.

And Ben. Oh my gosh. I loved watching him progress in his relationship with Haley, and the loving, protective streak. I also loved that he took care of Dani, whether she felt like she needed it or not, he was always there for her. There is nothing sexier in a book than a man who loves the females in his life unashamedly. Although I was rooting for he and Dani to get back together, I thought it was great that he was trying to move on when she left him behind. Even if it didn't take. Kim Law has a way of writing really, really swoon-worthy men in her books, and Ben fit right into the list of her great male characters.

I will admit to being a little overwhelmed by the amount of Wilde siblings. I struggled to keep them all straight (thank goodness for Kindle bookmarks), but that is a really, really good problem to have because they were all so well-written and very likable. I am very much looking forward to getting to know them all.

If you enjoy a book that makes you feel and think while it also makes you laugh and swoon, you should give this one a read.

Wonderful story of family, love and moving forward.
By Phyllis Wenzel
A poignant tale of family dynamics, realization of family secrets and the impact those secrets have on their lives, along with the healing that has to be done to move forward. This was a very different book by Kim Law and in my opinion, it was her best yet.

Dani Wilde had to throw her dreams to the side after a tragic car accident left her mother dead. She had to come home to Montana and the family cherry farm to raise her four brothers. The time is here now, her brothers are grown and she is finally able to leave the farm and go to NY and follow her dreams.

Ben Denton who left Montana years ago has come back. He needed to find his footing and what better place than the Wilde's cherry farm he practically grew up on. Only this time he shows up with a four year old daughter in tow, one he knew nothing about until her mother refused to take care of her. He hopes being on the farm will help him become a father, and not screw up his little girl.

The romance of Dani and Ben is just one of the stories in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed their romance and what they went through, but there is so much more to this book. Kim touches on a mental disorder called Narcissistic Personality disorder, that Dani's mom suffered from. She did an amazing job with the information, by giving us just enough so we were informed and not too much so we were over our heads. She showed what this disorder did to the entire family including Dani's four brothers in such a heartfelt and loving way.

Dani and Ben's romance started when they were younger, and Dani broke his heart. Now that they are on the farm together again Ben finds his heart still belongs to Dani but he is afraid to let her own it. Dani feels her heart being pulled to Ben, but with her leaving for NY shortly and with all the secrets about her mom coming out she feels very messed up. She can't give her heart to Ben can she? This book will make you laugh and cry. It pulls at your heartstrings in every way and I didn't want to put it down. I think everyone will enjoy this book and I do hope that there will be more from this Cherry Farm, maybe Dani's brothers will get their own stories.
